Patent Awarded to MediQuest Therapeutics - Company developing microemulsion delivery technology
BOTHELL, WA – 22 June 2010 – MediQuest Therapeutics, Inc., a specialty pharmaceutical company focused on developing topical therapies for inflammatory and infectious diseases, today announced it was awarded a United States patent for topical drug delivery technology.
The Company’s patented technology utilizes approximately equal amounts of aqueous and organic components in a two-phase stabilized system to transport drugs through the skin or nails. The trademarks reserved for the formulation embodied by this patent are “Topical Amphi-Matrix®” or “TAM®”, drawing attention to the two equal phases present in the drug delivery composition.
“This patent provides us with a timely protection for our lead therapeutic product, Vascana®, a treatment of Raynaud’s that is nearing completion of its clinical trial program,” Thomas Dooley, Ph.D., Chief Scientific Officer said. “We view this patent as an important step in the Company’s progress and continued efforts in developing topical formulations to address localized diseases (such as onychomycosis) with local treatments. Since what we expect to be the final Vascana study will be complete this year, the issuance of this patent will provide nearly 15 years of market exclusivity for Vascana, as well as for other topical products in development.”
This is the first U.S. patent awarded to the Company for the TAM drug delivery technology. Multiple related foreign patents have been issued or allowed. Additional U.S. and foreign patents are pending for the TAM platform technology. MediQuest now has been issued 23 U.S. patents and has filed for about 150 worldwide.
